Society Through Novels & Film
Artistic modes of expression such as novels and film offer a lens for understanding the forces and concerns that have shaped countries, regions, and peoples. Literary and artistic movements arise because of the confluence of history, creative choices of artists, geopolitical events, technological advancements, and other sociological movements. Students will analyze key works of literature and film to learn how various works can provide an understanding of society's cultural values, politics, and diverse perspectives. Simultaneously, students learn how their values, history, assumptions, and technology trends influence the views of artistic creators and observers. Students examine themselves by looking at their presence in their interactions with creative works and how these factors affect their understanding of the region, area, people, and diversity.
